About Care Providers

In September 2007, California was awarded a second, three-year Access to Recovery (ATR) grant from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).  The new ATR grant was awarded to 18 states, five tribal organizations, and the District of Columbia.  ATR is part of a Presidential initiative to allow people in need of substance abuse treatment to make individual choices for recovery that reflect their personal values.

California's ATR program, the California Access to Recovery Effort (CARE), provides vouchers to youth (ages 12 through 20) in Butte, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Shasta and Tehama Counties for alcohol and drug treatment and recovery support services. Services are provided by a diverse network of providers, including faith-based and other nontraditional organizations.
